Claiming benefits - a guide for people of working age
Published by Age UK - April 2012. The benefits system can be very complicated. There are many different types of benefit and allowances available from different departments and services, and it can be difficult to know whether you’re eligible for them or not. We help people claim over £100 million a year in benefits that they didn’t necessarily know they were eligible for. This guide is about the benefits you could be entitled to if you’re of working age. If you’re on a low income, or sick, disabled, unemployed, looking after children or caring for someone who is ill or disabled, you may be able to claim some money to help you. Please note that all figures apply to the tax year 2012/13. For more detailed information about these benefits, see our free factsheet Benefits for people under State Pension age.
