Over fifty's benefit from DRC Wellbeing Service

DRC is pleased to be able to support over 50s living in Birmingham to improve their quality of life through our Birmingham Better Care funded Wellbeing Project. The Wellbeing Project aims to address common issues surrounding older people such as isolation, lack of participation in activities and health issues. This service, tailored to the individual’s needs, aims to increase service users’ wellbeing and independence levels, and includes support such as assistance to access local services, socials, befriending and information and guidance about health and wellbeing.

DRC’s Wellbeing Co-ordinators are able to support mature individuals who reside in the Washwood Heath, Saltley, Yardley Wood and Billesley areas of the city. On receipt of a referral DRC is able to arrange to meet the service user in their own home so that an assessment of their needs can be conducted. Mr Smith accessed DRC’s Wellbeing Project four months ago and has described his involvement with the service:

“I first learnt about the Wellbeing Project when I visited the GP with my daughter. I was told that DRC would be able to help me, but I was unsure of the kind of things that they could help me with, so wasn’t sure what to expect. Since I have accessed the service I have learned about the help that is available to me and about other organisations of interest to me such as a local Carers Group. I now feel as though a weight has been lifted off my shoulders since I referred myself to the project and that my wellbeing has improved as a result. I have also had to visit the GP considerably less since I have been in touch with DRC. I would definitely recommend the project to others.”

- Mr Smith, Service User from Hall Green
