Heart Your Heart Course a huge success

Disability Resource Centre recently concluded a training course in personal health issues called Heart Your Heart. The course was aimed at people who had heart conditions, were at risk of developing heart conditions or were family members of a person in these at risk groups. Twenty three people successfully completed the 6 week course which started in March 2013.

The course was followed up with a session from West Midlands Fire Service on the practical aspects of Heart Start Training.

Access to Elected Office Fund launched!

On 9 July the Government launched the Access to Elected Office Fund to provide practical support for disabled people who want to become an elected representative.

The Fund has been made available to help meet the additional support needs that a disabled person has that are associated with their disability. If this support were not provided, a disabled person may face an additional barrier in the selection and campaign processes compared to a non-disabled person.

The latest guide in the Doing Life Differently series is written by and for people with lived experience of disability or health conditions and covers the benefits of sport and fitness, how you can get invloved – whether playing, watching or coaching. It’s not just for the next Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, but for everyone!  It needn’t be competitive, it needn’t be hard work, it just needs to be fun.
