Bright new future at DRC

Disability Resource Centre Chief Executive Louise Mckiernan said,

“The Centre will raise the profile of DRC’s existing health and well-being services and will help us to work towards our goal of establishing a Centre of Excellence for the delivery of service improvements that will enable disabled people and those with limiting long term conditions to be better placed to manage their personal situation.

As a result of the funding, Centre users will:

  • Be able to access a one-stop shop range of services designed to meet economic and social needs
  • Be better able to manage their disability or impairment and, in turn, access mainstream society
  • Be able to understand the benefits and importance of exercise on health
  • Be better placed to engage with other mainstream services and become less isolated

From 1st April 2012, when the centre opens, disabled people and those with limiting long term health conditions will be able to:-

  • Access to a purpose designed facility that helps them better manage their impairment or health condition through health education and fitness services
  • Receive general information, advice and advocacy that offers better explanation and understanding of public health services and signposting to other support services
  • Access DRC’s confidential counselling services
  • Sign up to various social and personal development activities including arts, crafts, music, creative writing, social media and IT classes, motivation, stress management and confidence building courses.
